Hello Everyone!

First of all, wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2011!

I am a software engineer currently working with Cisco Systems in Bangalore, India. I have 3.5 years experience as a software developer. I am looking to change my career and I want to transition to the position of a GIS user. I am specifically interested in the transportation and logistics industries. I want to analyze the info obtained from GIS and then use it to make decisions in any of the above industries.

I am looking for information regarding how I can go about this transition. I am willing to go back to school for a couple of years. It would also be great to get an insight into a typical day of someone in this position. I am open to working as an intern or full time in a similar position in any company to get an idea of how the work will be.

I will be grateful for any related information.

Thank You!

Hi and welcome to GIS Corner.

I would recommend going to our LinkedIn page (http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1090917). Create an account and join; there you will find a lot of international (especially India) members and are seeking GIS employees. My name is Daniel and I run the group along with this website, feel free to connect with me.

GIS is a good direction to go, especially as a developer. Learning the concepts of GIS is not too hard, but coding combined with GIS is a plus.

Hope this helps!
